An Early Alert is a message from your instructor that provides guidance on how you can improve in their class. WCC’s caring faculty send these messages early in the quarter to give you timely feedback and connect you to campus resources that will help you succeed.

• An instructor recognizes a sign that you may be experiencing difficulties in class (missing assignment, attendance issues, improvement opportunities, etc.) and sends an Early Alert via Navigate360. 

• You receive an early alert email with information about campus resources and opportunities for improvement in the class.

• Here are some steps you can take after receiving an Early Alert:

  • Meet with your instructor during office hours to discuss any challenges you’re facing and get their advice on how to improve your grade. You can find your instructor’s office hours on the class syllabus in Canvas.
  • Talk with your Advisor to strategize your success and adjust your degree plan as needed. Call Orca Central (360.383.3080) to schedule an appointment with your Advisor.
  • Use the free tutoring offered in the Learning Center.

WCC's official Academic Progress Policy exists to ensure that you're making progress toward your academic goals and staying on track to graduate. A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required to graduate.

Note: Financial Aid has a separate Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy to determine whether students are eligible to receive federal and state grants, scholarships, and loans.

All new WCC students start in good academic standing. If your grades cause your academic standing to change, you'll receive an email to your WCC student email. Advisors and Enrollment Services can also look up your academic standing upon request.

The tabs below explain each level in our Academic Progress Policy.

Students with a quarterly and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher

• Students with a quarterly GPA below 2.00 and a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher, or
• Students after their first quarter at WCC with a quarterly GPA below 2.00.

Students return to academic good standing when they achieve both a quarterly and cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.  

• Students with a quarterly and cumulative GPA below 2.00 after two quarters or more of enrollment, or
• Students with a quarterly GPA of 2.00 or higher and cumulative GPA below 2.00 in the quarter(s) subsequent to academic probation standing.

Students in academic probation standing must meet with an Advisor each quarter to register for classes.

Students return to academic good standing when they achieve both a quarterly and cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.

Students with a quarterly GPA below 2.00 in a quarter after being on academic probation or reinstated academic probation. Students with academic suspension standing must follow the processes below to become eligible to continue their studies at WCC.

Apply for Immediate Academic Reinstatement

Students with academic suspension standing may submit an application for immediate academic reinstatement, if extenuating circumstances affected their success. Applications are due the last Friday before the start of the upcoming term. A committee will review these applications and notify applicants of their decision the day before the term starts.

Take a break from WCC for at least 2 quarters (including summer)

Students with academic suspension standing who are in their second quarter of absence from WCC can call Orca Central to schedule an Academic Reinstatement advising appointment. Deadlines for completing these appointments can be found on the Enrollment Calendar. After the appointment, the Advisor will update the student’s academic standing to Reinstated Academic Probation.

• Students with previous academic suspension standing and an approved application for immediate academic reinstatement
• Students with previous academic suspension standing returning to WCC after completing a break of at least 2 quarters and an Academic Reinstatement advising appointment, or
• Students with a quarterly GPA of 2.00 or higher and cumulative GPA below 2.00 in the quarter(s) subsequent to reinstated academic probation standing.

Students in academic probation standing must meet with an Advisor each quarter to register for classes.

Students return to academic good standing when they achieve both a quarterly and cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.
